Flavour Dream - fiction. (Don't curb dreams of younger ones. Allow them to go reach them)

Hari was all set to start afresh on his new venture. Having a normal childhood with not much exposure to various cuisines he was hooked to the staples at his home - rice and sambar, idlis and dosas. Ranganna, Mallika and Hari were a happy family of three. Ranganna worked in a private company as a clerk. Mallika adorned the typical homemaker title. Both of them worked hard to make ends meet. A luxurious lunch in a restaurant was far from reality. One sunny afternoon as Mallika was watching a regular regional soap on television, Hari who was then around ten made a sharbat for his mom. It was not only a surprise in terms of his love towards his mom but she was totally in awe with the drink. It was extra ordinary. Hari had it in him. He had knowledge of flavor, he knew how to present his work beautifully. She praised Hari and started using his help in the kitchen when he showed interest. He learnt all of the delicacies his mom cooked at home, but it was all limited to one geographical area...

Sankranti 2012

I had a post on this festival last year : Sankranti 2011 So I thought I would not post anything about the significance of the festival. But then why do we have another post with the title Sankranti? Somethings cooking!! yeah really.... Yes Indeed. Sankranti Special this year at home - Rice flour sukha roti and 3 layered kaju katli/Barfi. Rice flour sukha roti : Ayyo! the recipie is not as complicated as the name goes.It is plain and simple. A dough made from rice flour mixed in boiling water with a pinch of salt. Make small ball of them by smearing a few drops of oil on your palms.Roll them softly and gently after a tap on rice flour. Put the roti on the tawa kept on a medium flame for about a minute on one side . This was not any usual Saturday. The peculiar feeling in the morning I woke up had something in store for sure. As I gulped the morning coffee, I was quite not getting the instinct of what this feeling actually was. I was gazing at the newspaper headlines and my mind started rewinding to a few episodes behind its current scene. After a while it came to a sudden halt at my office desk. "It was a lazy Friday (a day before this feeling started creeping in), the long weekend of Thanksgiving in the other shore, keeping the day as dull as it could be. Not a task to complete, no emails to read or forward. Sense of boredom prevailed everywhere. I am not the one who can idle away the time to waste gossips about the daily K-soaps or otherwise, so be it work or something productive, wanted to utilize all the minutes on hand into things that would keep my mind working before it rusts.
