Unveil the Other Side

Last week, an evening as I sit watching a reality show on TV, dad came home with a set of coins and placed two coins on my palm - heads facing up. He then asked me to guess their denominations. Instead of wondering why on earth he is asking me such a silly question, I rather concentrated on the coins. Without any hesitation replied back - Of course appa(Dad) they are one rupee each. He had a cunning smile on his face which revealed the signs of his victory. Yes he won the game. They were two different coins - 1 rupee and 2 rupees in denomination. I stood there gaping at the coins for a moment. He then placed another pair of coins and repeated the same question. This time I was defintive than before. In a confident tone I said "You cant fool me around. These are 50 paise coins. Aren't they ?" He smiled again. On no not again. They are of 50 paise and a rupee denomination , he replied. It has been so from a few decades now, that a lot of coins minted in India have disappeared. No am not talking of any stealing or burglary but straightly to put it , they are out of circulation. You've guessed it right! I am talking about the 25 paise . I had been hearing from quite some time that the 25 paise denomination coins will soon be a history. And then one fine day, recently, I read the lines on a daily subscribe which clearly said " 25 paise coins will be out of markets officially ". Ahh.. now it was finally announced. Soon the poor damn cute small coins will be an item to be kept in the museum. I have wondered why all these coins vanish? Is it only to do with loosing their value. First it was the 1,2 and 3 paise then the 5, 10 paise and then 20 paise. Now the 25 paise is the target.
