V - Vada

Oh how can go without mentioning the medhu vada's on this series. They are Indian donuts. Not sweet and made of rice and black gram with a little spice twist and salt. The chutney that accompanies it makes a wonderful snack.

So here is Vada's for you!

U - Umbrella Tree

To be precise Queensland Umbrella tree as it is commonly known was a new tree for me. I had never seen this species until recently and I was so amused by the fact of its shape. Resembles the umbrella spikes very clearly. Scientifically it is known as Schefflera actinophylla. It is an evergreen tree and a native to tropical forests and Gallery forests of Australia.

T - Tree in Sepia

A tree and the path in Sepia to get to the good old days when color photography was still to boom.
I love this photo for its simplicity and the beauty it carries.

India is a land of heritage. We have very old scuptures that are seen in many historic places

The black pepper corns when raw - Have you seen them? The spice known world wide and used in many recepies is grown in abundance in the south tropical region in India. I happened to click this picture while I was visiting Coorg(in Karnataka India) a while ago.

O -Overwhelming

Are you ready for a breathtaking and an overwhelming experience. You will need to wait for the rains in Wayanad. Head there and the scene is exactly what you see below. It was november of 2010 and we had a wonderful time. Could not resist but put this up here.

N - Need

Need makes a man do everything possible in this world. Some take the easy way but there are a few who got the rough way.

Here is one lady who strives all day long to earn a meal a day for the entire family. Ready to struggle but not ready to give up.

M ~ Moon

The attraction in the night to me is the Moon. I love capturing them in all its crescents. However the Full bright moon especially the Super moon capture is my favourite click so far.
Here it is for you to have a look at.

L - Light

Light is the source for vision. There are many sources of light in this universe and here I'd like to display the most simple form of light the aarti diyaas we use in our daily prayers to GOD.

K - Kosambiri(Sprout salad as known in Karnataka)

The broken green gram dal when soaked in water and mixed with cucumber , a little lime juice and a pinch of salt is what we term as kosambiri. Its a healthy salad and is a must item on the menu in our festive meals.

The click below shows how it looks.

Optionally we also a little grated coconut to enhance the taste.

J - Jingles

Dance is a form of art that soothes any stressed body and mind. The anklets make it even more rhythmic with each step creating magical music. Here is a capture of one such anklet that creates jingles.

I ~ Internet problem

Internet problem has been a hard hit on me this week. Please excuse me ..

Well for I - its Innocence on the theme.

This is one of my favorite click from the past year. A pair of curious eyes having lot to see in the years to come. The innocence fades as the child grows in this world. The parents of this kid are two day labourers who work at a construction site all day long. She wanders around the site and was curious to know all that happens around her. She was innocent but demanding.

G - Green

G brings the word "Green" with it. I have not much to say about Green. Below picture speaks all. I love the world this way. Please save trees and lets have a greener world.

What's with H? Come tomorrow.

F - Fig

Ahhh ! F for fruits , F for Food and yes F for FIG.

I am taking the privilege to post of this lovely Fruit - FIG. We call them Anjeer. We eat them as raw fruit or dry fruit. The advantages of this sweet tasting fruit are plenty. They are very nutritious and good to have them on your diet. They are seasonal fruits but not to worry you can get the stored dried ones in the nearby grocery all through the year. They taste more yummy in its dried form and are very nutritious as they contain vitamins A, B, and minerals like phosphorus, calcium, iron and manganese.

Last week I had them at home. I baked a Strwaberry-Fig pie using it. Here is one click of the chopped Figs.

See you on Monday with a G!!!

E - Elephants

Come "Dasara" - The festival of 9 nights celebrated in India as Navaraatri Mysore, a city in Karnataka fills with all the enthusiasm and bright colors. We have various activities held in the city for the spread of 9 nights and on the last day of Dasara we will have a procession of these elephants above. I happened to click this one just as they get ready for the next day's procession. They look lovely in their majestic walk with these bright designs on them.. Wont they?

What is for F tomorrow? Come back to see.

D ~ Deer

The thought of Deer takes me to Bandipur. This national park in Karnataka,India is a house for a lot of deers. The two types I happened to sight there are: Sambar Deer and the Spotted deer.

Sambar Deer: The sambar is a large deer native to the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Although it primarily refers to R. unicolor, the name "sambar" is also sometimes used to refer to the Philippine deer and the rusa deer.

Spotted Deer:The chital or cheetal, also known as chital deer, spotted deer or axis deer is a deer which commonly inhabits wooded regions of India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and in small numbers in Pakistan.

Lets see "E" tomorrow.

C ~ Cat Connection!

As I think hard about the letter C and chosing a topic, only one word circles around my mind ~ Cats!!

I love pets and cats are those pretty little ones, that when around brings joy. I enjoy their company when I am sad, when I am happy, when I have no one to talk to , when I want to pull my anger upon  [Poor little ones].

I love them in all stages of their life. When they are kittens they are innocent, as they grow up - the intolerable menace they put up , the pranks they play - Simply cant beat their energy levels. And their silent matured phase where they sleep most of the time is awesome for us to laze around a bit too.

I have scribbled about me and my pets in this post. Revisit if you have read it already to know whats my cat connection.

Here is my recent addition to the Cat-Pet family and her name is Dummi(Means fatso in Kannada).

B ~ Butterfly

The world has lot of colors in them. The best example are those tiny butterflies which come onto this earth with varied colors to make the place even more colorful and beautiful. I lovve clicking them , its hard to follow them wait for the posture and to get a perfect timing. Yet I dont tire going behind them every time.

Scientific details:
A butterfly is a mainly day-flying insect of the order Lepidoptera, which includes the butterflies and moths. Like other holometabolous insects, the butterfly's life cycle consists of four parts: egg, larva, pupa and adult. Most species are diurnal.

Tomorrow lets see what's for aplha C.

A ~ Avocado!

I was introduced to this royal fruit long back during my school days. However I knew it as "Butter fruit" rather than its name Avocado. When I first tasted Avocado little did I know of its benefits or how it can be used in various cuisines. My thoughts limited to only a fresh fruit juice with a little milk and sugar. Of course it is yummy, but the horizon expanded when I landed in  the States and saw it being used for a chips dip. Tasted nice!! From that day I love using this wonderful fruit in various recepies. It tastes good as a fresh bread spread, goes well in a light vegetable soup, can be layered in a chocolate mousse. The list would only grow.

This fruit is native of Mexico which has various benefits. I would link you to a website that gives you an idea of why Avocado should be a part of your diet.

Hope this is a good start on the A-Z series. Catch you tomorrow with another story with B.
