Onam..

I will not bore you all with the facts about this festival cause there is plenty of information about it on the net(Wiki). Here I like to describe how Onam was for me this year.
Though had heard a lot about Onam from my Mallu friends, I witnessed the real spirit of Onam at office this year.

Main highlights - officially declared to be a traditional day and a competition for vegetable carving. Well before you guess anything more. No I did not participate. Now that I have seen so many great artists , glad that I did not compete :).

Some pictures I'd love to share(some captured by me and some not) . They are very interesting ,have a look.

This was the welcome each employee recieved at the reception in office - Pookolam(Rangoli of flowers).

The first prize winner - A beautifully carved "Eco system"!The typical Kerala Onam scene - Boat race won the 2nd place
Another Carving of a pookolam out of vegetablesAn interesting scene from Kerala. It was fun to watch these ideas pop up in each of these groups
A group of freshers created this park! How wonderful this peacock looks.Thrilled to see so much of enthusiasm
Beautiful attempt to build a taj mahal in an hour an half, that too out of vegetables.Avatara Vamana splashes Bali's head, and sends him to the Patala- very well done!
In a whole I had a wonderful time watching the groups carve the vegetables and really happy with the beautiful and creative outcomes. Especially the roses made of was the best carving technique used.

Anxiously waiting for the next competition now.

I had started drafting this post a month back and now its published for you friends to read. Been busy for a couple of weeks. That has already taken a toll on my health. Now relaxing a bit and feeling better.

You must have had a lot of fun. When we were in college we used to celebrate onam in a grand manner but after that I have never been to any onam celebration.
