Unveil my creation - "Mahaganapathi"
Nirvignyam kurume deva. Sarva karyeshu sarvada||
Gajaanana he shubhanana , parvati puthra Gajaanana...
I was brought up hearing these wonderful Ganesha stotras(prayers). The inspiration to do anything in life comes from him and I talk to him literally in times of loneliness. Sometimes I have got a weirdo look from people when they see me talking to myself(actually my innerself - that's where Ganesha resides according to me)..
Too much a philosophy in this space makes the write up very boring I guess. So before it gets there let me post the Mahaganapathi painting .
Unveil my creation - "3 beautiful ladies"
"Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams." ~ Ashley Smith
I craved for happiness and here is what I saw after an hour of splashing colors.
Unveil my creation - "Story" & "Maa Durga"
There was a village with a happy family. The father and mother had two little pearls thats the two lovely daughters. The surroundings in green and a river nearby was the perfect place for the two sisters to spend a lovely evening. The below picture describes the storyline I just narrated. Hope you like it.
The painting left out to dry:
Unveil my creation - "Flowers spread the smile".
Presenting a vase filled with bright colored flowers.
How about a closer look at the picture:
"Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature. ~Gerard de Nerval"
Unveil my creation - "Glimpse of Under sea"
The best I could think of for a start of this glass painting as an activity was a simple plain under sea look or even better I'd say an aquarium look.
A few fishes and weeds made the start. It was more a childish art, but this was created to check the flow of the paint and to check the colors.
This was how it looked once finished.
First I thought of not framing it but then when I saw the final framed picture I was happy with my choice to go get it framed with the rest of them.
"Unveil my creation" - Krishna Ganapathi!..
First in the series of "Unveil my creation" is Krishna Ganapathi - The lord Ganesh who inspires me in doing anything and everything in life along with Krishna the eternal Guru - I thought this blend would the best idea to work on. Though first in the posting it was the third one I painted. As the belief goes lets start new stuff with the blessing of the Lord.
Here is how it looked after I painted and left it for drying.
After the framing, it goes on the wall and here is how he looks. I loved the final outcome.
For the next in the series check this space tomorrow.
Glass Painting!
I am obsessed with a new art work of-late and that's of course kept me pretty much occupied over the last couple weeks . I dont repent about it as I know my precious time was spent in something really useful.
Before I proceed further I'd like to share with you some research I made to find out the origin of the Art of Glass painting.
"The origins of the first stained glass windows are lost in history. The technique probably came from jewelry making, cloisonné and mosaics. Stained glass windows as we know them, seemed to arise when substantial church building began.
Before recorded history, man learned to make glass and color it by adding metallic salts and oxides. These minerals within the glass capture specific portions from the spectrum of white light allowing the human eye to see various colors.
Gothic stained glass windows are a complex mosaic of bits of colored glass joined with lead into an intricate pattern illustrating biblical stories and saints lives.
Medieval craftsmen were more interested in illustrating an idea than creating natural or realistic images. Rich, jewel colors played off milky, dull neutrals.
Stained glass artists became glass painters as the form became closer and closer to panel painting.
The Renaissance brought the art of stained glass into a 300 year period where windows were white glass heavily painted. They lost all their previous glory and it seemed the original symbolism and innate beauty of stained glass was forgotten.
Stained glass, or more appropriate art glass, is all around us today. An explosion of interest toward the end of the 20th century has given rise to many new and imaginative forms of this art. The rise of the individual artist, new technologies and the growing interest in stained glass as a hobby craft have all lead to what is being called A a new golden age in glass."
This was an extract from Art Glass Association.
For now I'd leave you with this note , Will come back with a series of the glass paintings -"Unveil My creation!" Soon ... Keep a watch on this space. The paintings are done, framed and only thing remaining is the right set of photos.
Onam..
Though had heard a lot about Onam from my Mallu friends, I witnessed the real spirit of Onam at office this year.
Main highlights - officially declared to be a traditional day and a competition for vegetable carving. Well before you guess anything more. No I did not participate. Now that I have seen so many great artists , glad that I did not compete :).
Some pictures I'd love to share(some captured by me and some not) . They are very interesting ,have a look.
This was the welcome each employee recieved at the reception in office - Pookolam(Rangoli of flowers).
The first prize winner - A beautifully carved "Eco system"! | The typical Kerala Onam scene - Boat race won the 2nd place |
Another Carving of a pookolam out of vegetables | An interesting scene from Kerala. It was fun to watch these ideas pop up in each of these groups |
A group of freshers created this park! | How wonderful this peacock looks.Thrilled to see so much of enthusiasm |
Beautiful attempt to build a taj mahal in an hour an half, that too out of vegetables. | Avatara Vamana splashes Bali's head, and sends him to the Patala- very well done! |
Anxiously waiting for the next competition now.
I had started drafting this post a month back and now its published for you friends to read. Been busy for a couple of weeks. That has already taken a toll on my health. Now relaxing a bit and feeling better.
Go Away!
I turned weak
Can barely stand on my feet
Pathetic is the leak
Tasteless turned the meal
Had an apple minus the peel
No medicine no wine
Helped me stay fit and fine
Here I am shooing you away
Laying on my bed I say
Cough, sneeze, and the pain
Never come again
**Happy Durgashtami**
Durgashtami or Durga Ashtami, is the eight day of the Navaratri and Durga Puja celebrations. Durgastami is also known as Mahashtami and is one of the important days of Durga Puja. Weapons of Goddess Durga are worshipped on the day and it is known as Astra Puja. The day is also known as Virashtami as there are displays using arms or martial arts. It is one of the most important day for Goddess Worship in Hindu religion.
There is also a belief in some regions that Goddess Kali appeared from the forehead of Durga on this day to annihilate Chanda and Munda and Rakthabija. During the Durga Puja rituals on Mahashtami day the 64 Yoginis and Ashtanayikas – the eight consorts – of Durga are also worshipped. The eight consorts of Durga, also known as Eight Shaktis, are interpreted differently in different regions of India. But ultimately all the eight goddesses are incarnations of Shakti with different aims.
Sometimes they are also an attempt to give form to a particular aspect of Shakti. The Ashtanayikas that are worshipped during Durga Puja are Brahmani, Maheswari, Kameswari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Narasinghi, Indrani and Chamunda. Numerous minor deities including many attendants and guards of Durga are worshipped on the day.
The 8th incarnation of Goddess Durga is called Maha Gauri. On Ashtami, Maha Gauri is worshipped. She does the welfare of all her devotees. Maa is said to give effectual results. It is said about Goddess Durga that she rides lion. She is crowned with moon on her head. She is Kantiwali and has four arms. She has shell, Chakra, bow and arrow in her four arms. She has three eyes. She wears an armlet, necklace, bangle, anklet etc, and she has earrings with gemstones. Goddess Durga is the destroyer of the evil. The 9 Durga are the symbol of the 9 power. Her 9 incarnations are worshipped during the Navratri. These goddesses are the symbol of Brahmacharya, awareness, sacrifice, simplicity, knowledge, fearlessness, patience and sense of service.
Another small tale doing the rounds from ages goes this way:
Once there lived a gaint named Durgam in India. Everyone living on earth, heaven and hell were terrified by his cruel acts. Then, Goddess took the Avtar of Durga or Durgseni and killed that monster. She saved the life of devotees and Brahmans. By killing the monster Durgam , she became famous as Durga. The word "Durga" in Sanskrit means a fort, or a place which is difficult to overrun. Another meaning of "Durga" is "Durgatinashini," which literally translates into "the one who eliminates sufferings." Thus, Hindus believe that goddess Durga protects her devotees from the evils of the world and at the same time removes their miseries.
Wishing everyone a very happy Durgashtami. The below picture is one of the many Durga deity decoration in Bangalore.
SUPW - Socially useful and productive work!
Last week an evening as I returned home, a neighbour's kid was waiting for me the enitre afternoon for help.He needed guidance to complete his project work. The school had come up with a concept to bring the creativity out of a child's mind.It goes this way - use the waste materials and create something useful - Socially useful and productive work(SUPW).
SUPW is another learning area falling under the non-scholatic domain - This ensures that the students develop better understanding of their social and environmental issues. It also encourages students to take up varities of activities, which are productive and useful.
I being an indvidulal inclined to crafts/painting and other artistic creativity, readily agreed to help the young lad.
Asked the kid of his interests and what he wanted to make. He had made up his mind of what items he would use but was not sure what he wanted to make. He carried an old plastic water bottle in one hand and had a few meters of brown twine.
My brain thought for a few minutes and came up with the idea of making a beautiful container which can be used as a pen stand or a vase that can hold few flowers.
We started off with the project and was satisfied with the end product. Here is what we did.
First, we had fun with the pull and push of hack-saw blade to cut the plastic bottle to remove the cone shaped top.
We decided to use only the bottom cyclindrical part. Next asked the kid to play with the glue(used fevicol). As he smeared the outer surface of the bottle I started placing the twine on it in circles going round and round. This was done till the
entire bottle was covered with the brown twine.
The step after this was to glue a few old white buttons on the top of this container.
Water paint - It'd been a long time since I painted using the color pallets and here I was holding the brush.
Made the outlines of the colors that needed to go in - blue, red and yellow. He made the strokes and splashes.
Final product was what you see below.
I had a great time working on this small project. It was not a bad one I guess.
